We were looking at ways to bring the community together and thought that a chat room would be pretty cool. We currently are testing FlashChat 4.0 to see how it works out. It is installed and is linked up at the top right hand corner of the forums just incase you forget the link. It uses the same username and password as your forums account. For example, my forum username is Garrett, so my chat username is Garrett as well. We ask that you follow the same guidelines that you follow on the board in the chat. Treat others with respect. The chat system runs off Macromedia Flash, if you do not have Macromedia Flash Player, you can download it here!

Here is where the link is located at,

Thanks,
The RBO Team

great idea, i really like chatting but most chats have boring people.
unlike here, wich i already know that i have same interests with the people here
Kage
This will clearup some posts from newcomers. Since, theres a tech section hopefully people will use it instead of asking the same stuff over and over....

Another option is to have an IRC channel. I hang around IRC a lot, and it doesn't take much to start a channel. If people use FireFox or Mozilla, it's easy to install an IRC client. If not, then mIRC is the usual Windows choice as far as IRC clients go.

Finally, if you guys decide to go IRC, I suggest the irc.xelium.net server, as it's the only one I'm familiar with.

The most important thing is to be able to see how many people are in chat before you go in.
nanaya
just tried it out discussing something with Chibi-Tails......

the chatroom is fast, but it won't keep the conversation...
after my connection suddenly broke, all previous conversation was gone......
although there is a save function, I don't think anyone will keep pressing it for every sentence...

(start understanding why people like to ask in the forum more......)
Raijinili
Also, it sometimes glitches up and not only does it not keep conversation, I can't type and it scrolls up, so I can't see what was just said and have to reload.

I much prefer IRC...

that whole chat room thingy is empy man -.- and its even 3 PM here (GMT+1)

For IRC, more people join the server irc.deltaanime.net, since most RO-related stuff goes there, private servers, setups, etc.

The FlashChat looks nice, by the way.

All hail Garrett!

So will anyone be making an IRC channel?

I've registered the #ragnarokbattle channel in both xelium.net and deltaanime.net. support for those two networks is at network.xelium.net and deltaanime.net. Since I wasn't sure which one people were going to connect to, I've registered both.

note: I won't be very active (Pandasu on Xelium, hikaritenchi on DaNET) today or tomorrow.

IRC help is available at irchelp.org for new users.

so I don't know if I'm overstepping the lines of authority on the forums by doing this, but I only suggested this as an alternative to the flashchat. However, I think that if the flashchat has the problem of not enough users, the IRC chat will have the same issue. Also, there's a small learning curve associated with nominal IRC usage, which may also turn people off. At any rate, the channels are there for you guys to play around with.

For people without IRC clients, xelium.net has a java irc client at http://network.xelium.net/chat.php
After selecting a nickname, type "/join #ragnarokbattle" without the quotes to join the channel.
On DaNET, their non-java client is at http://chat.deltaanime.net/
choose a nickname and in the #channel field, type in "#ragnarokbattle" without the quotes to join.

For Windows clients, mIRC.com has the most popular windows client I've ever seen.
Mac users can use snak 5.x, i think.
*nix has *I think* ircII as a client.
I'm a windows guy, so I'm not sure. I use mozilla's chatzilla myself, but there's no real good reason to prefer chatzilla over mIRC.

Thank you hikaritenchi, I do appreciate your help. I am kind of new to the hole IRC thing, that is why I tried to keep away from it somewhat. I wish I could get Yahoo or someone to host a RBO chat on Yahoo! Chat or something, but thats alot to ask.

A direct link for the IRC would be

irc://irc.xelium.net/ragnarokbattle

This would have the same problems as the flash chat as there would not be enough people around. But its irc in general is the most popular chat tool.

Err, you mean the link is this:

irc://irc.xelium.net/ragnarokbattle

Remove the "http" for non-HTML links...

EDIT: Seems that IPB doesn't allow linking to non-HTTP URLs... Nevermind.
Raijinili
I, for one, would use Xelium. I already do, in fact. Flashchat lags my browser.
hikaritenchi
so I'm guessing that most users aren't used to IRC. Usually, since IRC clients aren't very processor-intensive, you can simply idle in the channel, keeping your client open, and waiting for others to join. In this way, people aren't popping in and out, and just stay in the channel. If you happen to catch someone who's online at the same time as you, great. If not, then no worries, just keep idling. happy.gif

Unlike the flash chat, which lags some people's browsers. (it crashed mine a few days ago)

Eh... the Flash Chat link is gone now?
f3rd1
Sorry, we forgot to add the link when changing the skin... >_<
For now, http://ragnarokbattle.com/chat/flashchat.php

The flash chat link is back online!
