"Don't try to make someone look stupid on poor spelling just for spite. It really shows how low you'd go when you do that, and then you look pathetic."
This is what I said to a member on the board after he/she hunted down another member on the board to humiliate that member based on every little thing, right down to spelling errors. This is, on another site, how I usually dealt with people who decide that they would take it upon themselves to make someone else's life on a board as difficult as possible.
The post was not intended as a warning that I would use my position as moderator to correct this behavior I saw as "pathetic", but rather a warning that respect does not come from following a member's posts to correct spelling mistakes. This had nothing to do with being a moderator and everything to do with seeing one member treating another member poorly, and challenging that person's actions as a member.
However, I neglected the fact that my posts, as a moderator's, carried certain implications, including that of a punishment if my implied will was not done, even if I myself do not see how the post itself would indicate any such thing. In other words, I can't talk like any other member because everyone's afraid of me.
So I apologize to the board for not taking care with my words. It was not intended as abuse of my powers, but intentions don't always come out as they should.
