My main problem right now is that I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy a new comp or not.
This is the one I'm loking at.
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/c...amp;~ck=expbuy3A basic rundown:
10 490 SEK(~1655 USD)
Vista Home Premium
4 core 2.40 GHz
3GB RAM
320 GB HDD
256 MB nVidia™ GeForce® 8600GTS
Mouse and keyboard included
8 USB 2.0 ports (2 front, 6 back)
One 16x DVD +/- RW unit
22" wide(16:10) TFT 2889SEK (~455 USD)
Does it seem worth it?
kaizer12
Nov 20 2007, 05:28 AM
Hmm.. My CPU costs around 410 USD.. I assembled it myself..
Core 2 Duo 2.14 Ghz
2 GB RAM
320 Gb HD SATA
Motherboard (on-board Video/Sound)
Casing
I recycled my old HD and CD drive..
I think it's much cheaper to buy separate hardware than a whole..
Duker
Nov 20 2007, 05:30 AM
Yeah, but I don't want to assemble it myself. Too lazy.

Just make sure you not static.. Touching hardware when you are statically charge may ruin them.. lol.. Anyway building PCs is fun.. And you could choose what you really want.. Buy different hardware that suits your personal needs.. What I need is more RAM and a more powerful processor.. I don't give much attention to video and sound cards..
Lemuelss
Nov 22 2007, 01:44 AM
aw.... video cards and ram are my life sound cards are secondary processors is a must too.... i'm a gamer and planning to install a video editing software so i needed all the horse power i need....
kaizer12
Nov 22 2007, 01:48 AM
lol.. I'm a developer and all I can see in my screen are lines of codes so I don't need a very powerful video card..
Except maybe when I build my gaming machine..
Lemuelss
Nov 22 2007, 01:50 AM
it depends on your needs btw.... how much is a video editing software.... of course original.... no pirated mm'kay....
kaizer12
Nov 22 2007, 02:32 AM
I think it's 1000++.. i don't know.. I never used one before..
Lemuelss
Nov 22 2007, 02:34 AM
aw.... ithought it's more expensive our editor told us it is more that 50K++ if it's original.... so that daily updates are easy to receive....

kaizer12
Nov 22 2007, 08:21 AM
Php - Philippine peso.. Anyway I don't know since I don't have any video editing software.. So maybe it's really 50k++..

I even got the tip from another forum that I should assemble it myself, so I'm gonna try it, but I'm having problem finding a compatible motherboard. This is the list of parts if thinking of having right now:
OS: Vista Home Premium |

So... does anything suck? I'm fairly new to anything hardware related, so if anyone could find a motherboard for me I'd be grateful...

Nov 22 2007, 11:58 AM
First thing in finding a motherboard is to make sure that it is compatible to your processor.. Then see the number of AGP, ATX, PCIE, etc.. Make sure everything is compatible.. Your choice if you want an on-board Video and sound card..
I recommend you consult nyx.. He has a wider knowledge of the techie stuff..

True... but I'm gonna see if it's anything I can downgrade to something cheaper. Money isn't the problem, but I'm a cheapskate

.
Or I could think like this: "I'll probably not need to upgrade it for the next 5+ years."
Lemuelss
Nov 23 2007, 09:12 AM
lolz.... it's more convinient if you assembled a powerful PC right now so that it will take time before you go Upgrading like crazy....

Nov 23 2007, 09:51 AM
Exactly... the biggest fear I have about all this right now is if I will have a hell to get all my old programs/games/anything to work on Vista... I haven't heard anything about it's backwards-compatability.
Lemuelss
Nov 23 2007, 10:27 AM
yup that should be your concern right now.... Vista is still hard to use 'coz of it's compatibility problems....
kaizer12
Nov 23 2007, 07:32 PM
Try using XP for a while and wait for Vista's service packs.. I f everything looks stable enough then upgrade to Vista and migrate your files.. Or you could do a dual boot.. Partition your HD then install Vista on one partition and XP on the other..
Lemuelss
Nov 26 2007, 05:04 AM
yeah.... but it could eat alot of space in your hard drive....
Duker
Nov 26 2007, 07:28 AM
I'll have 2*500GB HDDs... that's 1 TERAByte... I'm pretty sure I don't have to worry about size.
But... I'm not gonna bother with partions, I'll just tackle the problems when I get them.
Vista FTW!
The order is sent, now I just have to wait...
kaizer12
Nov 26 2007, 10:10 AM
Hmm.. I alocated about 40GB partition for my OS and the rest of the 250+GB for storage.. Maybe you should also have another partition for back up.. It's up to you..
Lemuelss
Nov 27 2007, 04:05 AM
that's a good idea too and you already ordred your Vista so.... good luck on that....

The thread it links to have nothing to do with Vista...

It tells that RBO in Vista sometimes lags.. Anyway look at it if your RBO experiences slow down when you install it in vista..

Nov 29 2007, 08:21 AM
see.... vista kinda sucks right now.... maybe after a year or so vista will rock maybe >_> ....
Duker
Nov 29 2007, 09:50 AM
A SP comes early next year, I think I survive until then.
All complaints I've seen on Vista is to 90% either A) They don't like the new interface (I love it) or

Driver issues, which always exist for any new OS (Most should be solved for the games I'm playing) or C) It requires alot of raw power (I've got that).
I'm not worried anymore.
The thread your help topic links to is Aeon's (Doesn't matter whos it is but... w/e) topic, and he says
QUOTE("Aeon")
~OS: Windows XP
Garret only mentions Vista to say that he haven't tried RBO in Vista

In other news: It's hopefully sent today, according to the store, so I should recieve it tomorrow or on Monday.

Yey indeed... if it would work. There's something wrong with either the GFX card or the motherboard, no image is showing up... hopefully it's the GFX, it's alot easier to replace. But I don't have a clue how I can find out, except by buying another GFX card and see if it works...

Bah, he came to the exact same conclusion as me: Either it's the GFX-card or the MB. I'm pretty sure it's the MB, since not even BIOS show up when the monitor is connected directly to the MB.
